"Idol" Hopeful Nixed from H'wood for Pot Rap?

Mugshots of Akron Wilson and Ashlyn CarrAkron Watson, an "American Idol" contestant from Dallas and one of the feel-good stories of the new season, has been disinvited from the Hollywood round of the show, possibly after producers discovered a pot bust on his record.

Watson, whose San Antonio audition aired on last night's "Idol," was arrested in April 2003 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to court records obtained and posted by PegasusNews.com, by way of Reality TV Magazine. He was headed to Hollywood after impressing the judges with his singing, and his story. But Watson tells Pegasus News that two days before he was scheduled to leave for Hollywood, he received a call saying that he would not be competing anymore "for unknown reasons." "Idol" producers did not comment on their withdrawn invitation.

Meanwhile, another contestant from San Antonio, facemaker Ashlyn Carr, was reportedly arrested in August for pouring sugar into the gas tank of her ex-boyfriend's car while a student at Sam Houston State University, according to a report in The Houstonian Online.

When confronted by police, says the Houstonian, Carr confessed to the crime.

A spokesman for FOX had no comment.

106. I love the guy who as usual play the "race card". Are you ever just going to take resposibility for YOUR actions...or is every one else Always at fault. Know what I mean, uh know what I mean, know what I mean!

107. #3 Kristen..........so people who smoke pot are "losers"? WOW! You are definately clueless, and have no idea the circle of people who do smoke. And no, they are not all losers. You don't have to smoke pot to be a loser. YOU can be a loser all on your own. So judgemental! There are worse things in life than smoking a little pot. I firmly believe drinking is a much more serious issue. Drunk drivers, beer goggles, druken rage, just to name a few problems that usually arrive from drinking.
But aside from that, I do not believe that the idon contestant should have been dismissed. People have pasts, it's not like he is a child molester, murderer, rapist. What makes this show so great, is the door that has been opened for these people. A chance to realize their dream. SO WHAT if they got into a LITTLE trouble in the PAST. Imagine how many less entertainers there would be if smoking a little pot was the dealbreaker.

108. Didn't these poor young people know that you can't get away with drugs until after you get a record deal? The police don't even care too much then.

109. Chances are that the contestant lied on the application. IF this is the case the shows producers do not want problems that could have been avoided. I do agree that a standard should be established so that apparent favoritism is seen when some "druggies" are released and others are not. Consistency is the key here and there isnt any! Get rid of all the druggies!

110. I think this is a shame. He did this three years ago, and it's still being held against him. When does the time come when someone who is trying to change their life get that chance. Nobody is perfect in this world, as is shown everyday on the news. He has decidely proven that he wants to change his life for the better. He probably fell into the pot trap in the first place cause his chances have always been limited since he is an African American. Give him a chance to prove his worth.

111. Please, these days doing drugs, vandalizing other peoples property has nothing to do with being a good romodel. If that was the case we wouldnt have any " famous" people. Noone is perfect everyone f***s up in their life. Look at snoop dog ( cocaine addict ) Lindsey Lohan ( drugy whore ) Britney spears? come on you could find dirt on anyone, as long as you didnt sexually assualt, murder, or get convicted of any serious charge, you shouldnt be pentalized. Besides, if its on their criminal record, then they were already pentalized for their actions, rather it was probation, or whatever!! this is bullsh*t, i do agree with the Paula statements, she looks like she does alot of pills!

113. This Guy got arrested for a minor amount of Marijuana. So what. People do change, and if this young Man is moving on with His life lets be supportive! Obviously you must be " Perfect " to compete in a contest against other talented people. Nowhere did it say He was busted for Dealing Drugs, and to my knowledge quite a few people smoke pot each day. To the Producers of this show: Prioritize, Check the Backgrounds of the Judges, and focus on the Talent! You are not the Law! You are producing Entertainment, and discovering new talent. Stick with what you know best!

114. I am very happy and proud to say I never, never watched that stupid ass show. To disqualify anyone for smoking some weed is plain stupid. Thats the number one reason I won't vote for Hillary. She had Rob Thomas slated to perform at one of her functions and when she found out he was going to be on the cover of High Times she cancelled his appearance. What an ignorant, confused, woman to do that. Just like the ignorant, confused people at American Idol.

115. I think it's hilarious. I hope more Idols get booted off the show as well. So that I may laugh.

116. All he had to do was disclose it on his application and it would have been fine. He lied on the app and the producers punished him for it.

117. This show is about an "American Idol". If this is what we are trying to tell our children is the type of person that they should idolize, then someone has gone wrong at one point or another. Yes, I am sure that more people than you can count, on one hand, have dabbled in what ever form of recreation at one point or another. The shows Producers have taken the liberty of flexing a muscle on this issue and when we sit in their chair and walk their walk, then we can say we would have done it differently. Until then, we can leave it to relaying our comments in places such as these.

118. I agree, everyone has made mistakes in their past. And as long as they learn from it, I say let them have a second chance. Isn't that what it is all about, forgiving! Maybe this guy just needs a break. And to Kristen who thinks no one should get a break if they have done something wrong, brace yourself, you are in for a long road of disappointments!

119. .....a good way to send a message to the Producers of this show is to Boycott the show, but this would penalize all the contestants. Another way would be to demand that these two young people be invited back with Sincere Apologies!! Yet another way would be to do a Background check on the Producers and post the results on the Web. Just a little payback. I am not a vindictive person, but get out of these peoples PAST lives and focus on the future. Wouldn't it be great if Akron Watson found another venue to show His talent, cut a record deal and become a tremendous success. " The best Revenge is Success".

120. Ok so they "disinvite" him for a pot charge from 3 years ago, but Tara what's her face gets to keep her Miss USA crown after doing coke & being a drunk? Yeah that totally makes sense. Boy she's a GREAT role model for our young girls huh? This guy has definitely had rough times & has an amzing talent & one blemish that happened 3 years ago & he doesn't deserve a chance? How come cokehead Tara does but this kid doesn't? I am a white chick from the midwest & even I think it has something to do with race & financial status. And I agree with the comment above... legalize pot. I can't stand the stuff but even I know that needs to happen.
